At the Salone del Mobile furniture fair, Carlo Ratti told the story of OLTRE, which was created from the partnership of CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati and Veneta Cucine, which develops and enhances the Continuous Space concept. It is based on a concrete idea: rethinking the kitchen no longer as an element confined to inside the home but as domestic infrastructure that can extend into the landscape and come into direct contact with nature.
Born from a conversation that started at the Venice Biennale, OLTRE goes beyond the traditional model of a kitchen against the wall and introduces an adaptive, fluid system that is designed to fit in with its surroundings. The continuous curves, the ability to adapt to different contexts and the movable “skin” that opens up like a concertina to reveal functions and transform the kitchen into an open, dynamic organism engaged in an ongoing dialogue with the surrounding space.
The project communicates a new living idea: freer, immersive and connected. It is not just an outdoor kitchen but a design vision that redefines the relationship between the home, nature and socializing by making continuity between indoors and outdoors its guiding principle.
