Hi! My name is Martino!

I'm forty years old, and I'm a professional saxophone and trumpet player. Since 2002, I've played in a number of groups at clubs and theatres all over Italy, and I've been recording my first CD in the studio for several months.
I live in a single-room flat in the centre of Verona with Cinzia, my significant other. She's a very skilled jazz singer. We met at the Verona Jazz Winter Festival that's held every year in a famous theatre only a stone's throw from home.

Luckily, all our neighbours are music lovers, and we often leave the windows open while teaching our students or practicing.

When I'm not touring, I teach sax, trumpet and trombone to four students at my house. There's Stefano, a thirty year-old photographer with a passion for funk. Maria is the youngest at only sixteen, and she has inborn talent. Federico, a single guy around fifty, never misses a blues concert. And Paula is a Brazilian who has rhythm running through her veins.

Every year around June, when I take a break from teaching, all five of us hold a small recital in a school. It's also important to play in public… composed in this case of only friends and relatives. But as I always say, that's the way we all started!

Cinzia teaches singing to Fabrizio, an eight year-old boy one evening a week. It's a blast hearing them vocalise together while I make dinner in the kitchen.

When the lesson's over, before he leaves, I have him taste something I've made. I'm growing fond of him, even though I don't feel fatherly quite yet. I don't know what I'd do with a son right now. I don't have time, and I'm often away on a job. When I do go away, I never fail to bring home a new instrument for my collection. The problem is space. I don't know where to put things anymore, so it sometimes happens that the record player ends up next to the coffee maker! Our house tells both our stories in a small space. Several times, we've thought of moving to a bigger place, but we're too attached to these four walls. Music, together with my Cinzia, is my life!

Trombone
I have a diploma in saxophone, trumpet and trombone. I've had great teachers who got me to love music, and I now teach my own students with the same passion. I like to get to know the person I'm dealing with and create a relationship that's nice and friendly, as well as professional. Above all, music must be fun and not be experienced as an imposition. That's why the first question I ask a new student is, "Why do you want to learn to play?", since motivation is essential in this world! I teach saxophone, trumpet and trombone, along with breathing techniques, rudiments of harmony and methods of improvisation. I can prepare students for the exam at the conservatory, if they ask me to. I teach at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

Professional experience
I've played (and still play) in various groups at clubs and theatres in Italy. I've toured everywhere in Europe as a trumpet player for many years. I've worked with Italian and foreign artists such as Don Menza, Mirko Cisilino, Marko Crncec, Filippo Vignato, Stjepko Gut, Stefano Senni and many others.
