“What a lunch! Gianmarco was a remarkable cook and host.
It was like reliving my childhood all in one gulp. It made me recall those legendary red gnocchi my Grandma used to make every Thursday.
There are tastes and aromas you just never forget.”
Hi! My name is Gianmarco!
I'm 35, and I live in an apartment in central Montefalco. I'm a computer technician. A few months ago, I changed jobs. I'm now responsible for managing the operating system in a company where there are only women. Maybe this time, I'll finally begin to understand the world of women!
I'm the classic bachelor who couldn't even cook a hard-boiled egg (up until a short time ago), who takes his shirts and pants out to be ironed every two days and, luckily, has Mrs. Lucia come three times a week to put the house back in order. These are minor luxuries I'm able to treat myself to.
In everyday life, I'm constantly struggling with my artistic side. It persuades me to play guitar in a rock group just about every weekend, and is leading me to write a novel in what little free time I have (I've already put off the publication date seven times...). I also grapple constantly with a mathematical mind that makes me love my work, day after day. Jacket and tie for five days, worn-out jeans and coloured t-shirts on weekends. I should have been born half in the 1800s (as one of those poètes maudits who rebelled against the conventions of bourgeoisie society) and the other half at a time yet to come (when technology will play the leading role in our lives).
On my thirty-fifth birthday, I made a promise to myself: I'm getting back in shape! I hadn't exercised in years. I'm always sitting at my PC, so I joined a gym and began to cook healthy foods. No more jars of prepared food, cans of tuna and frozen stuff. The first few days, it took me two hours to do the shopping, and the temptation of heating up a plate of pasta in the microwave for a few minutes was always lurking around the corner. But I stayed strong. Every night, after my hour and a half of treadmill and weights, I went into the kitchen and tried out new recipes, which fully brought my creative side to bear. I liked to cook more and more.
One day, a lady I work with introduced me to Social Kitchen, a website where you can learn to cook with a real chef in real time.
It seemed like they'd invented it just for me. Creativity combined with technology!
Since then, I sign up for almost all the events, and I've learned a whole lot of new recipes and met many other cooking fans like me. It's fun to cook in your own kitchen and also chat with the chef and others. I post my creations on my Instagram profile every week.
My Mum is still sceptical. She doesn't believe I've really learned how to cook. I'm waiting for the next Social Kitchen event to ask the chef for a few tips on how to amaze her with a surprise dinner!
“What a lunch! Gianmarco was a remarkable cook and host.
“I couldn't believe it! Who'd ever have said that our only male colleague would prepare a dish like this?
Knowing Gianmarco, I thought we'd be ordering pizza. But he astonished us with gnocchi (or "red turnip nuts", as he called them) he'd made himself.
It was a real revelation!"
Social Kitchen was born out of an idea of Antonio Marchello, chef and trainer. Social Kitchen’s goal is to offer to anyone who is passionate about good food a free chance to cook with chefs, foodbloggers and food lovers.
