Veneta Cucine’s Design Thinking once again in Malta
"Design thinking as a widespread planning method" was the theme of the second edition of the workshop which Veneta Cucine has organised, in collaboration with Electrolux, for interior architects, designers and for simple enthusiasts on in Malta on the 2nd December.
Lectures will be given by: Francesco Morace, sociologist, Luigi Campello, CEO at Electrolux Appliances Italy, Andrea Branzi, designer, Dante Donegani, Chair of the Master Course in Design at Domus Academy.
The meeting place, as for 2010, the space Fringe Event area inside the Fino showroom, an accredited point of reference for contemporary furnishing in the entire island.
In 2010, the spotlight was on design products and on designers' thinking. This year, however, the focus will be on the increasingly closer link between the current generations of consumers and the development of new products, as well as on how companies and designers should relate with one another in this new scenario.
This time, young designers have also been called upon to participate and intervene, thereby offering an opportunity to come into contact with the world of design and production.
New products have been presented for the occasion, designed by the students of Mcast Institute of Art and Design in the 2010-2011 academic year-
Design thinking as a planning approach has been developed during the various interventions in relation to diverse experiences and expertise, to give a complete and exhaustive reflection on the topic.
Francesco Morace has introduced the scenarios which the new target generations can offer to generate a new types of products, as well as new forms of communication and distribution. A context rich in unexpected opportunities awaits the companies and the designers that know how to seize them by trying to interpret and satisfy the expectations of the new "Consum-Authors".
Luigi Campello has brought the experience of a multi-national in confronting product creation and development process connected to Consumer Insight analysis, or rather to the real needs of consumers: they do not have an in-depth knowledge of new technologies, but they do know what their needs are. To this end, accurate analyses have been presented and products oriented in this direction. Everything is brought to life by a few philosophic references taken from Aristotle:" war in view of peace, work in view of rest, useful things in view of beautiful things".
Andrea Branzi has brought his contribution by speaking about the role which designers will have in this new dimension of society. He has emphasised how architecture is missing from this context. As society becomes ever more consumer based, the product transforms, it assumes forms and functions completely at odds with common sense. The new imperatives of everyday life require transformation, until arriving at the hypothesis that kitchen space will be used for sleeping.
An interesting video has offered an advanced vision of what the new city could be like, in an increasingly closer bond with nature.
Dante Donegani has described his experience developed since 2008 with Veneta Cucine and Electrolux, from within Domus Academy.
An experience which puts companies in contact, a world of new product formation and research. A testimony of strong content, effective for demonstrating the value of research in the company innovation process in a framework of active relations between school and work.
In the end, a lively Design Party has hosted the contest winner awards in an atmosphere of great participation, as a symbol of "good living".
